Femivore Candidate Spotlight: Gauri Sarin

An event taking place during Eat Local First Week 2012 is the presentation of the Femivore Award, which recognizes one woman’s leadership in the local food movement. Three finalists will be chosen to pitch their projects (which must GROW, NOURISH, or INSPIRE) during the Femivore Award Happy Hour and Dinner at RIS on July 16. The audience will then select a winner to receive $1,000 toward her initiative based on the most promising and inspiring project presented.

Who will be named the ultimate Femivore? Stay tuned to find out! Until then, get to know the seventeen amazing applicants currently in the running. Featured today is Gauri Sarin of Something Stuffed.

NOURISH – A business that feeds others local foods by either cooking local food, supplying local food/products or making value- added products. This could include a bakery, wholesale baked goods, neighborhood groceries or canning, pickling, cheese making, etc.

Project/Business Description:

Gauri Sarin and her business partner, Michelle Nguyen, own Something Stuffed, a new food truck serving a variety of stuffed foods from empanadas to dumplings and spring rolls. They love food and work hard to make sure their offerings are crafted with the best local ingredients they can find. Gauri and Michelle would use the Femivore Scholarship to help bolster their food truck’s recognition and finances.
