Meet the Owners
Steve Ma
Live GreenLive Green makes eco-friendly living and business practices easier and more affordable in DC. We are a membership organization that provides support to green businesses in the local community and secures great discounts on everyday green products and services for consumers.
Here at Live Green we know how hard it is to find truly eco-friendly services and products in a market that is increasingly filled with ‘green washing’. So we do our homework when selecting businesses to add to the Live Green Spot family. Our Spots must pass a rigorous screening process that looks into eco-friendly products, green operations, price, quality, and social responsibility. If the business meets our standards, we then go a step further and negotiate a deal or discount for our Live Green members. The goal is to create win-win situations where Live Green Spots benefit from our large member network and increased visibility, and our members benefit because they save money while supporting great green businesses!
So far the Live Green Spot network includes more than 50 businesses in DC and Chicago that are green alternatives to products and services you buy anyway. Our Spots include yoga studios and wellness spas, restaurants and bakeries, clothing stores, green-living goods, green cleaning services, green consulting firms, and a pet supply store.
Live Green is also active in the DC and Chicago communities. We participate in local environmentally-minded events as well as host our own events for our members and Spots. We are building a supportive green community so you don’t have to figure out how to be green all by yourself!
1. What is your name and the name of your local business?
Steve Ma, Live Green
2. Give us a short description of your business.
Live Green is working to build a thriving green economy. We do this in 2 main ways: first, we identify triple bottom line businesses and help them thrive through networking events, marketing, consulting services, and business to business deals. Second, we work to change consumer behavior by making green living easier, more accessible, and more affordable.
3. What was your first job?
Paperboy for the Home News (a daily newspaper serving central Jersey)
4. What is a day in the life of you (work day)?
I happily greet our team and then we all go about shining the spotlight on the innovators who are creating a new and better way to do business. We also spend our time exploring ways to recruit more members, support our business partners, and make it as fun as possible for people to live in a green and socially responsible way.
5. What do you do for fun (when you are not working)?
Play football and dream of the day I perform on Broadway (if I could only sing)
6. Why should DC residents think local FIRST?
This is where the innovative work to save our planet is being implemented on the ground.
